Is your own chatbot self-hosted?
No. I am a piece of software made by Neural Forge that runs on a small hosted model inside the EU data zone. That is public because the company only self-hosts client systems where sensitive data must stay on hardware they control.
What it does
Answers only from your facts
Everything Faber knows is in one facts file you control. When the answer is not there, it says so and gives your contact instead of improvising a plausible one.
Speaks your visitors' language
It replies in the language the visitor writes in. Portuguese is native European Portuguese, not a translation, and the register matches your site.
Points to the right page
Answers cite your own pages and your email as real links, so a visitor who wants more is one click from it.
Honest about what it is
Faber says it is software, says what it runs on if asked, and never quotes prices, timelines, or promises. Those go to a person.

The widget, the facts file, and the voice are the same either way. What changes is where the model runs and who pays per answer.
Hosted, with a hard budget
How Faber runs on this site.
- A small language model processed inside the EU, called from a service that costs nothing while nobody is chatting.
- A fixed monthly budget with a hard cap. When it is spent, Faber says so and goes quiet until the first of the month.
- Bot protection on every message, an origin allowlist, and a burst limit. No transcripts, no IP addresses, nothing in cookies.
Right for a public website where the facts are public and the volume is modest.
Self-hosted, on your GPUs
The same stack we run for our other systems.
- An open-weight language model on hardware you control, so no conversation ever reaches an outside AI provider.
- No per-answer cost and no monthly cap: the only meter is your own electricity.
- The facts file can include what you would never send to a cloud API: internal procedures, service catalogues, unpublished contacts.
Right for public bodies and organisations whose data cannot leave the building. Runs on the same self-hosted infrastructure Neural Forge already operates in Portuguese local government.
What it will not do
- Invent an answer. If the facts file does not cover it, it says so and gives your contact.
- Quote prices, availability, or commitments. Anything a person would be held to goes to a person.
- Act as a general assistant. It will not write code or essays or discuss things outside your organisation.
- Remember visitors. The conversation lives in the browser tab and dies with it.

Faber is tested against a probe set before anyone sees it: traps for invented clients, prices, hardware, and the wrong language. Answers ship only when the traps fail.

Questions about Faber
How is Faber different from a generic AI chatbot on a website?
A generic chatbot answers from everything a large model absorbed in training, so it will confidently invent an opening hour, a price, or a client you never had. Faber answers only from a facts file you have verified, and when the answer is not in it, it says so and hands the visitor your contact. The design goal is being right about your organisation, not being fluent about everything.
Can Faber run on our own hardware instead of the cloud?
Yes. The self-hosted option runs an open-weight language model on GPUs you control, using the same self-hosted infrastructure Neural Forge already operates for its archive AI and conversational avatar in Portuguese local government. No conversation reaches an outside AI provider, there is no per-answer cost, and the facts file can include information you would never send to a cloud API.
What languages does Faber speak?
Faber replies in the language the visitor writes in. On neuralforge.pt that is mostly Portuguese and English, with Spanish and French handled as they come. Portuguese is always European Portuguese, written natively in the register of your site rather than translated from English.
What does Faber store about visitors?
Nothing, by default. The conversation lives in the visitor's browser tab and is sent with each message so Faber can follow the thread; it is not written anywhere. No transcripts, no IP addresses, no cookies. If an organisation needs transcripts for quality review, collection can be switched on together with a privacy notice that names the controller.
What does it cost?
It depends on the deployment. Hosted, the running cost is a small monthly model budget with a hard cap you choose, on top of the setup work. Self-hosted, there is no per-answer cost at all. Faber itself will not quote you a figure, which is rather the point; write to [email protected] and a person will.
